RunFree does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to us or any third party. Everything stays on your device.
No Account, No Sign-Up
RunFree does not require — and does not offer — account creation, sign-in, email collection, or any form of authentication. There is no RunFree server, backend, or database that stores information about you.
What Data RunFree Uses, and Where It Stays
To function, RunFree accesses the following on your device only:
Location (GPS): used while a run is active to draw your route on the map and calculate distance, pace, and speed. This data is stored only in your device's local app storage and is never transmitted anywhere by RunFree.
Step sensor: used to count steps during a run. Processed entirely on-device.
Body weight (optional): entered by you to improve calorie estimate accuracy. Stored only in your device's local app preferences. Never transmitted.
Run history: duration, distance, pace, steps, and calories for runs longer than 5 minutes are saved locally on your device so you can view your history. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to share it (see below).
Sharing Features
RunFree includes optional features that let you choose to share data:
Share run stats as an image: generates an image on your device and opens your phone's standard share sheet. You choose where it goes (e.g. Messages, email, social media). RunFree has no involvement after the share sheet opens.
Share run history as text: same as above — generated locally, shared only if and where you choose.
Export debug log: a diagnostic feature for troubleshooting, shared only if you explicitly long-press and choose to send it, and only to whichever app/contact you select.
In all cases, sharing is initiated entirely by you, and the destination is entirely your choice via Android's standard share mechanism.
Third-Party Services
RunFree uses the following third-party SDKs to provide core functionality:
Google Maps SDK: used to render the map and your running route. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
Google Play Services Location: used to obtain GPS coordinates. Subject to Google's privacy policy as above.
RunFree does not integrate any analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs of any kind.
Optional Music Features
RunFree can launch third-party music apps (such as Spotify or YouTube Music) that you may have installed, and includes optional internet radio streaming from public radio station URLs. RunFree does not collect any data from these interactions — launching another app is a standard Android system action, and radio streaming connects directly from your device to the station's server.
Permissions RunFree Requests
Location (fine/coarse): required for GPS run tracking.
Physical activity / step counter: required for step counting.
Notifications: used to show live run stats in a persistent notification while tracking.
Internet: required for map tiles and optional radio streaming.
You can review or revoke any of these permissions at any time via your device's Settings.
Children's Privacy
RunFree does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, because RunFree does not collect personal information from any user at all.
